HP is shrinking the desktop computer in a surprising way. The company has unveiled the EliteBoard G1a, a keyboard that contains a complete PC inside its chassis. The device is built for corporate environments where desk space is precious.
A Keyboard That Doubles as a Computer
The EliteBoard G1a looks like a standard full-size keyboard. But underneath the keys sits an Intel Core processor, integrated graphics, RAM and storage. Users connect a monitor, mouse and peripherals to turn the keyboard into a fully functional desktop.
HP designed the system for IT managers who want to reduce clutter on office desks. The keyboard eliminates the need for a separate tower or mini PC. It also simplifies cable management, with only a power cord and display cable needed.
Specs include options for Intel Core i5 or i7 processors, up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB SSD storage. The device runs Windows 11 Pro. It supports dual 4K displays through HDMI and DisplayPort.
Why This Matters
Corporate IT departments are always looking for ways to maximize space and reduce complexity. The EliteBoard G1a offers a unique solution by combining two essential desktop components into one. This could help companies with hot-desking, compact workstations or shared offices where each desk must be clean and functional.
However, the device is not for everyone. The keyboard is non-upgradable after purchase, and the integrated graphics limit its use for gaming or intensive creative work. HP is targeting businesses, not consumers. The price reflects that, though HP has not announced final pricing.
The EliteBoard G1a represents a niche but innovative approach to corporate computing. It may inspire other manufacturers to explore keyboard-integrated PCs, but for now, it remains a tool for specific workplace needs.
