Luxury phone maker Vertu is staging a comeback with a foldable device that comes equipped with its own artificial intelligence agent. The company unveiled the AlphaFold, a clamshell-style folding smartphone aimed at high net worth individuals who want both exclusivity and advanced technology.

The AlphaFold Hardware

The AlphaFold features a 6.7-inch inner display and a 3-inch cover screen when folded shut. It runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor paired with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage. A dual camera system sits on the back with two 50-megapixel sensors.

These specs place it in line with current flagship foldables from Samsung and Motorola but without pushing any boundaries in raw performance or camera innovation.

The Hermes Agent

What sets the AlphaFold apart is its built-in digital concierge called Hermes Agent. This is not just another voice assistant wrapped in generic software. Vertu describes it as an autonomous agent that can handle complex tasks such as booking travel reservations or managing personal schedules through natural conversation.

The agent runs locally on the device using an undisclosed large language model optimized for privacy sensitive tasks.

Why This Matters

Vertu’s return signals that luxury smartphone buyers are beginning to expect more than just expensive materials and branding from their devices they now want meaningful software features powered by artificial intelligence.

The move also highlights how premium brands are racing to integrate generative AI into everyday tools rather than leaving those capabilities solely to mass market phones from Apple or Samsung.

For wealthy consumers who value discretion above all else having an offline capable personal agent could be more appealing than cloud dependent assistants that send data to remote servers.

Pricing And Availability

Vertu has not disclosed exact pricing yet but previous models have sold for several thousand dollars each making this one of the most expensive foldables on the market when it ships later this year through select retailers worldwide.
